Suan Pakkad Palace
The residence of Princess Chumbhot of Nagara Svarga, one of Thailand’s leading art collectors, this is a complex consisting of five traditional Thai house that overlook a beautifully landscaped garden. Each house has a large collection of Asian art and antiques. One building contains an extensive exhibit of seashells, mineral crystals, and painted pottery from Ban Chiang. The main attraction of Suan Pakkad Palace is the 300-year-old lacqure pavillion, which is decorated with medieval gold leaf murals.

Yesterday, I visited Suan Pakkad Palace or Suan Pakkard Palace (Thai: สวนผักกาด). It is a museum in Bangkok, Thailand. It is located on Sri Ayutthaya Road south of the Victory Monument (It is also near my university :-)). The museum has Thai antiques on display, including Ban Chiang pottery over 4,000 years old. Originally the home of Prince Chumbhotpong Paripatra and his wife, they converted in into a museum which opened in 1952. The museum features a group of four traditional Thai houses with covered hallways between them. There is also artwork on display in its Marsi Gallery.
The name Suan Pakkad translates as "Cabbage Patch", but the museum's collection of five traditional pavilions is one of the best examples of traditional domestic architecture in the city. Collections include : Asian art and antiques, seashells, mineral crystals, and pottery and bronz objects from the pre-historic birial ground at Ban Chiang, in the northeast of Thailand. I was so impressed :-).
This shot is fourth house. This house is sometimes used for dining on special occasions. One room in this house is private chapel, containing a large collection of Buddha images, such as a walking Buddha in the attitude of dispelling fear, in Sukhothai style (14th century), a Buddha in the attitude of subduing Mara (Evil) of Chiengsaen and U-tong style. On the wall, there are beautiful paintings on cloth depicting the Lord Buddha. Unfortunately, I could not show you gorgeous interior decoration because of the rules :-). Hope you like it.
