Siam Paragon in Bangkok
Siam Paragon is, in my opinion, the best shopping center in Bangkok. There is a newer and bigger shopping center in Bangkok called World Trade Center but it’s too big, difficult to find your way around and, at the time of writing, has too many empty lots but they’ll fill up eventually.
Siam Paragon however, is probably as big as you’d want a shopping center to get. It boarders on the brink of being too big and if you are not a regular, you could find it difficult to get to the same shop twice.
On the basement level, there is Siam Ocean World which is a huge fish tank that you can walk under and view various marine animals.
Ground floor is host to a huge food court where you can have cheap Thai food or any number of other cuisines ranging from Japanese to Subway sandwiches. It’s all there as is a comprehensive range of cakes, ice-cream parlours, coffee shops and anything else that might satisfy even the most demanding hunger or whim.
Siam Paragon is actually a department store centrally located in a much larger shopping mall. The department store is similar to other department stores in Bangkok, but the shops exterior to the department store are excellent albeit a little pricey.
Siam Paragon boasts a huge bookstore, car sales for makes such as Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Maserati and even Hummers. There are expensive international jewellry stores, fashion stores and a number of hi-end hi-fi stores.
The unfortunate thing is that most of the shops not part of the Siam Paragon Department Store are generally too expensive for the average buyer. The shops definitely cater to the rich and even the prices in the Dapartment Store are higher than those elsewhere. However, Siam Paragon is my shopping venue of choice because I can get what I want there and although the prices in the Supermarket are higher, the whole center offers a one-stop-shop where I can eat, drink shop and even catch a movie on the top floor.
The size of Paragon means that it doesn’t get too crowded ( Don’t get to the food hall at normal lunch times. The whole of Bangkok seems to eat there and queues are certain. The food hall can lead to a lot of jostling as literally hundreds of people go there to eat and to sit in the free airconditioning.
Siam Paragon certainly plays host to hundreds of people giong nowhere. Thais have nothing to do and so they all go to shopping centers to do nothing except enjoy the airconditioning. Siam Paragon however has plenty of sections free from wandering Thais. It’s possible to find a empty spot.
